Introduction
Comtech Limited is one of
the leading Telecommunications Companies in the Caribbean. The
company is a part of the Computers and Controls Group which includes
Computer Power Inc (USA), Semaphore (UK), Computers and Controls,
CableNett (ISP), CaribLink (ISP), Interserv (ISP) and, Open Telecom –
(Trinidad and Tobago). The group has offices in, Barbados, Guyana and a
joint venture arrangement in Suriname. The Group had revenues in excess
of US$70 Million in 1997 and jointly employs about 500 people.
Background
Comtech Limited was created in 1962 by International Aeradio Limited (UK) to provide
land-mobile radio communication services in Jamaica. In 1974, T. G. Geddes Grant (Jamaica)
Limited acquired 51 percent of the company with International Aeradio Limited retaining 49
percent. In December 1992, T. Geddes Grant (Jamaica) acquired the remaining
International Aeradio Limited shareholding a wholly owned subsidiary. In 1997 Computers
and Controls acquired 70 percent of Comtech Limited to complement its already strong
information technology business while the remaining 30 percent is owned by local
management
